How to find cheap flights? Let's bury those myths first!

4:17 PM

Hi!

Oh my, If I would get a 5€ every time I hear: ,,Only if the tickets wouldn't be so expensive.." I would be super rich by now! For those who travel already on a regular basis it is not a mystery that finding cheap flights from any place of the world is not that hard as it seems.

But not everybody is born to be professional traveler so here's couple of tips that might help you to find better, cheaper flights or at least better value for your money.

Let's start with couple of silly things I have heard from so called ,,influencers'' trying to get that attention all over YT which is not necessary true.

Flights are usually the cheapest on Wednesdays
Like, why would they be? Is it like some special day of the week? Apparently, you might want to run quick check for long distance and short distance flights on Wednesday to find out it's not true.

However the truth is, plane tickets will be way more expensive around public holidays time, bank holidays, vacation period etc. but there is no rule defying any particular day to be the cheapest to book. The best option is to check it every day through search robots on your browser.

It's better to get a flight without connection even if it costs more
I guess that one is a personal preference but based on my own experience when we were stuck in plane from Los Angeles to Dublin for 11-something hours I can say I would prefer the connected flight. Situation looks different if we try to fly from Germany to Great Britain or Iceland and there's 5 hours connection flight then obviously it's a waste of time. If I'm meant to pay couple of euro more for more convenient flight, I usually do.

But consider that connection from the perspective of spending couple of hours on not always the most comfortable seat without the fresh air or getting stretched properly.. Unless you can sleep through the whole flight and you don't mind it. There is also possibility that your connection is a very long wait at the random airport and sometimes it gets worse - it's overnight wait. When the long wait during the day might give you some time to explore random city in a random country, the overnight wait can be a nightmare spent on the airport's floor.

In result, always check your flight before you book it twice; check your connection or check if it's not better option not to take it for couple of euros more but don't bet everything for the flight without connection just because it seems more convenient because it may end up being a pain in the a... ..literally.

Use incognito mode every time you look at the flights
Again, why incognito button has to be so special like Wednesday mentioned above. Incognito mode only matter when you book the flight directly from the airline's website and only if you look at the day of the booking couple of times a day for a week..

Basically every website has a tracker of enters and analysts can see when the flights were checked more often so they might decide to increase the price due to high demand but as I mentioned before, there is no particular rule that will define increase or decrease of prices.

Book only through Airline's website because it's the safest
Well, go ahead then, if you like... but every searching robot on the Internet usually contain couple of booking websites along with the airline's website and what you can observe is that nearly every cheapest flight you can find doesn't come from the airline's website. Of course it's good to compare the final price on airline's website with any booking website but I can guarantee they are all safe and sound to use. Sometimes you might get a value for your money booking through third-party websites. For example, when I have booked my flights to Thailand through BudgetAir I have received free 1x30kg luggage for each person return and an option to book my seats for free a week before flight instead of 48hours before as I would have if I booked through airline's website (you can pre-book the seats way earlier.. for 60 dollars each seat...)... Not too bad.

It always comes up cheaper to book your flights separately and then look for your accommodation
Yes, that was a fact.. long time ago, when on the market there was like 5 big travel companies and couple of small ones offering organised holidays for quite a high price and that myth is still very popular since then because people don't consider to check with the agencies.

Last minute holidays o travel agencies websites might cost you even half price of what would you normally pay booking yourself. It's because all those agencies have specific amount of seats on planes for their customers they must sell to receive the profit. Same goes for the hotels. It is still beneficial for the agencies to send you on full package 7-day holidays to Gran Canaria for 300 euro. It works a little bit like a sales in high street shops. Something they were selling st the beginning for 120euro now is marked 60. And they will still make a profit if you will buy it.

Expedia's sales is another example where you can really grab the bargain for a package flight + accommodation. I used to do the research for Las Vegas during one of those sales. 14 days package starting off 370 euro. Basically, it's like you got a hotel for free cause that's the average you would spend just on your flights. Just to let you know.

I hope I answered all those questioning stuff going around the Internet and if you have any questions, just drop me the message in comments and I will get back to you soon!
